Discover the Power of Movement
Flora Muijzer is a Dutch physiotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience, specialising in sports performance and spinal conditions such as back and neck pain. She practices at her own two Physio Flora locations on the Costa del Sol — Marbella and Riviera — combining evidence-based Western physiotherapy with a holistic, whole-body approach. An Ironman 70.3 World Championship finisher herself, she brings an athlete's firsthand understanding to every client she treats.
Hello and welcome! I'm Flora Muijzer, founder of Physio Flora. My motto — "prevention is better than cure" — shapes everything I do: I don't just treat pain, I help you understand your body so it moves better, for longer.

Move better, feel better.
Beyond the clinic, I live what I teach. I'm a triathlete myself — an Ironman 70.3 World Championship finisher — and I've cycled to Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet, reaching an altitude of 5,400m. That firsthand experience of pushing my own body's limits is part of why I understand my clients' goals from the inside out.

My Journey Into Physiotherapy
I graduated as a physiotherapist in 2012 and have spent the years since building experience across the Netherlands and China. From 2019 to 2022, I worked at the most exclusive elite performance clinic in Shanghai, treating an extraordinary roster of athletes: Chinese Olympic windsurfer and Rio 2016 silver medallist Peina Chen, drivers from the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, and players from the Shanghai Women's Football League — alongside countless expats seeking professional, high-quality physiotherapy care.

My connection to movement and travel started early. As a child, I relocated every four years following my father's academic career (he's now a retired professor of microbial systems ecology at the University of Amsterdam) — an upbringing that sparked a lifelong curiosity about the world and different cultures.
From Ballet Academy to Physiotherapy: My Specialisations & Education
Before physiotherapy, I trained for seven years at the Dutch National Ballet Academy with the goal of becoming a professional dancer — a path that ended when injury forced a change of direction. That experience is exactly why I understand my clients' frustration when injury interrupts what they love. It led me to physiotherapy instead, and early in my career I worked closely with the Dutch National Ballet Academy and Nederlands Dans Theater, helping fellow dancers recover and return to the stage.
I qualified at just 20 years old. Rather than rush into travel, I gave myself three years to build a solid clinical foundation in Amsterdam before setting off on a nine-month solo trip around the world at 23 — through South America, South Africa, Australia, and Indonesia. That journey introduced me to surfing, a passion I chased seriously enough to spend a year in Australia qualifying as a surf instructor.
Paddling out at dawn — surfing has been a lifelong passion since Australia.
Back in the Netherlands, I settled in The Hague as an independent physiotherapist and continued specialising:
- McKenzie MDT Therapist (certified in Belgium) — a diagnostic method that sharpened my clinical reasoning around spinal conditions, particularly back and neck pain
- Mulligan Manual Therapy and multiple advanced manual therapy courses and masterclasses
- EXOS Performance Specialist — an elite-level qualification in strength and performance training
- Exercise Physiology — in-depth study of the body's energy systems and how training influences them
- TPI Golf Level 1 Certification (Titleist Performance Institute) — assessing the golfer's body-swing connection to improve performance and reduce injury risk
My Mission
Today, based on the Costa del Sol, I specialise in sports performance and spinal-related conditions — including complex back and neck pain. I believe movement is the foundation of a healthy, flexible body, and I'm committed to helping every client reach their goal, whether that's recovery, injury prevention, or performance optimisation.
