Golf injury prevention
for Costa del Sol golfers.
Year-round golf on the Costa del Sol means year-round load on your body. This page explains how a TPI body screening from the Titleist Performance Institute method reveals the physical limitations behind your swing — and collects our golf-specific guides, with practical steps and when to see a physiotherapist.
The TPI screen
What is a TPI body screening?
The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world's leading organisation for golf fitness and the study of the body–swing connection, built on data gathered from thousands of golfers — from weekend players to the best on tour. The TPI Physical Screen is a set of 16 simple mobility and stability tests that show exactly where your body supports your swing, and where it's quietly working against it.
Why we screen before we treat
Every golf swing is different, and that's not a flaw to fix — it's a reflection of what your body can and can't do. Instead of guessing at swing faults from the outside, we start from the inside: how your hips rotate, how your spine bends and turns, how well you can balance and hold position under load. That's what actually predicts the swing changes you can make stick.
The Body-Swing Connection
Physical limitations show up in your swing as specific, recognisable patterns. If you've ever been told you sway, slide, early-extend or lose your posture through impact, that's not a habit to simply think your way out of — it's very often your body finding the only path it currently has available.
- •S-Posture & C-Posture — spinal mobility and core control at setup
- •Early Extension & Sway/Slide — hip mobility and lower-body stability
- •Flat Shoulder Plane & Reverse Spine Angle — thoracic (mid-back) rotation
- •Chicken Winging & Casting/Early Release — shoulder, wrist and forearm mobility
What we test
The full screen covers 16 short tests across four regions of the body. None are strength tests in the gym sense — most take under a minute, and many you'll recognise from everyday movement.
Posture, core & balance
Pelvic Tilt (moving the pelvis independent of the spine) · Bridge with Leg Extension (glute activation — the base of power from the ground up) · Single Leg Balance · Seated Trunk Flexion (lumbar control)
Hips & lower body
Pelvic Rotation / 90-90 Hip Rotation · Overhead Deep Squat (ankle, hip and mid-back mobility together) · Toe Touch · Lower Quarter Rotation
Spine & torso rotation
Seated Trunk Rotation (thoracic rotation, isolated from the hips) · Lat Test (shoulder flexion and lat length) · Cervical Rotation (neck range)
Arms & wrists
Forearm Rotation (palm up and down) · Wrist Flexion / Extension / Hinge — club control and release timing
From findings to your plan
Every test result sorts into one of two buckets, and your plan is built to match:
- •Mobility limitation — your body physically can't reach a position yet. We prescribe targeted stretching and mobility work.
- •Stability limitation — you can reach the position but can't hold it, control it, or produce force there. We prescribe activation and strengthening work.
This split matters: stretching a joint that's actually unstable (or strengthening one that's simply stiff) wastes your time and can make things worse. The screen tells us which one you need, and where.
What you'll walk away with
- •Your results — a full test-by-test result, kept in your file and referenced in every follow-up
- •A clear picture, in plain language, of what's driving your current swing patterns
- •A focused plan — mobility and strength/stability priorities you can act on straight away
- •A pathway, if you'd like one, into a full golf mobility and strength & conditioning programme
Try it yourself
Self-assess your swing in 60 seconds.
Six quick checks inspired by the TPI screen. Answer honestly — "not sure" counts as a flag worth measuring.
Question 1 of 6
Standing tall, can you touch your toes without bending your knees?
Try it slowly. Note whether you feel a stretch in your hamstrings or low back.
